Fitness fanatics are being encouraged to take part in a challenge with a difference to raise funds for disabled children.
The Newlife Foundation has joined forces with Fitness First gym for the Around the World challenge where athletes will cycle the circumference of the globe, from the comforts of Cannock.
The challenge lasts for four weeks and teams of any size will ride 24,900 miles by taking part in spin classes and using bikes around the gym.
Newlife fundraiser Phil Morgan says: “We decided to do this because we saw it as a great opportunity to create awareness of the charity while encouraging people to get fit. Newlife and Fitness First are two large businesses in the area and so it made sense for us to join together for this good cause.”
Fitness First personal trainer Ian Stanley says: “Our members are always up for a challenge, and this is the perfect way to get motivated while doing something for a good cause. Newlife is a great charity and we wanted to do something for the cause. People should not be put off by the distance of the challenge as any long journey starts with a single step.”
Newlife CEO Mrs Sheila Brown OBE says: “It is very encouraging to see the efforts of Fitness First to improve the lives of disabled children within the local community. We are encouraging everyone to get involved, so we can raise funds to help more disabled children.”
Entrants must raise a minimum sponsorship fee of £50 to take part and all money raised through the challenge will be restricted to help local disabled children in Staffordshire.
The challenge starts on Tuesday 6th April and lasts for one month. Non-members of Fitness First who wish to take part will get two weeks free membership, after which a charge will apply.
