Every stride of the Carsington 10k run brought Harriet Poppet closer to helping disabled children receive the specialist equipment they need to flourish and enjoy every opportunity.
Harriet, who works in Newlife’s Cannock-based Superstore, raised an incredible £790 and said knowing every penny would improve a child’s quality of life gave her all the motivation she needed through gruelling training and the race itself.
I wanted to challenge myself physically and mentally while raising money for a cause that has such a positive impact on children’s lives. A 10k felt like the perfect way to step out of my comfort zone and show that a personal challenge can create meaningful change for others.
Every training session reminded me why I had signed up, and the support from friends, family and colleagues kept me going.

Balancing A-level studies, work and training was not always easy, but Harriet said having a clear goal made every run worthwhile.
There were days when motivation was hard to find, but thinking about the children and families I was supporting helped me stay focused. Crossing the finish line felt incredible, and knowing the money raised would help Newlife provide vital support made it even more rewarding.
The fundraising exceeded all my expectations. By sharing my story on social media and reaching out to family, friends and colleagues, I raised nearly £650 in just two months. I was overwhelmed by people’s generosity, encouragement, and kindness.
If you are thinking about helping Newlife, just go for it. You might be surprised by what you can achieve. You do not need to be an experienced runner or take on an extreme challenge — choose something that inspires you, share your journey and do not be afraid to ask for support!
